Comments

As you know, I am on the opposite side of the fence from you on The Single Man - maybe because I had seen the rave reviews before I went in and was then hugely disappointed.

Oscar winners I would like but won't happen :

Best Actor - Colin Firth
Best Actress - Carey Mulligan

District 9 - if a sci-fi film is going to win Best Film I would rather it was this one, which shows that a great script, original characters and being surprised by a plot are just as important as special effects - who can forget the alien father and his son ? also think lead actor Sharlto Copley should have been nominated.

Although he was only (?) the voice would have been great to see Ed Asner get a nomination for Up - he did all the things required of a great performance and made you both laugh and cry (admittedly the latter is not hard in my case).

My addition to the snubs:

Bright Star

Visually stunning film that did justice to John Keats' poetry, which I thought was nigh on impossible, and captured the essence of the Romantic poets. Fantastic performances by Ben Whishaw as Keats and Abbie Cornish as Fanny Brawne. Review from The Guardian : http://bit.ly/c0x7eY

One added link from The Observer - they describe this year's Oscars as soccer mums vs Precious : http://bit.ly/a7HrLV
